Apply to be a part-time publicity/marketing intern with Catapult, Counterpoint, and Soft Skull Press in New York
Catapult (books.catapult.co) is seeking a part-time (16 hours/week) publicity and marketing-focused intern to start this fall. This is a paid position located in our New York office.
Duties will vary day-to-day, but we rely on our interns for time-sensitive, essential work. We have hired previous interns to in-house staff positions, and proudly strive to help all of our exemplary interns with their job searches upon completing the internship with us.
Typical weekly duties will always include packing and mailing ARCs, finished copies, and other promotional materials — these mailings may not be glamorous, but they are vital to our books’ success, and so require someone who is detail- and process-oriented.
Our interns also help with research, copy editing, and various administrative tasks across the company’s editorial, publicity, marketing, classes, production, and publishing departments. Interns work closely with a variety of talented, motivated, and creative people to gain hands-on experience at one of the largest independent publishers today.
The ideal candidate will be exceptionally organized, open to constructive feedback, enthusiastic, efficient, a clear communicator, interested in learning the business of publishing, self-managed, able to work well in a fast-paced environment, passionate about the literary world, knowledgeable about media outlets (diverse and niche interest knowledge is a plus), and comfortable learning new software and systems. Interns must be familiar with Google Drive. InDesign, Photoshop, and Premiere experience is a major plus.
We are seeking a part-time intern to start in late September or early October. The four-to-six month term can last through February 2020, allowing the intern to experience an entire season of the publishing calendar.
Our interns earn $15/hour. Send a cover letter and resume to Sarah Jean Grimm and Megan Fishmann at jobs@catapult.co by 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday, September 25th. Please include “Fall 2019 Internship” in your subject line.
