Eligibility: Composers, choreographers, performance artists, visual artists, translators, writers, or other kinds of artists or humanists who are US citizens are eligible. Most fellows have published a book or have a similar career achievement.
Location: Fellows spend an academic year at Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey.
Funding: Fellows are given an $86,000 stipend.
Description: While living at Princeton, fellows will not be required to do any formal teaching. Instead, this fellowship gives artists time for “studious leisure” in order to create new work.
Description: This residency for poets is located at the foothills of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. It provides space for “intense periods of creative work” as wells as time to get to know other poets. It includes a private room, bath, and studio, in addition to three meals a day with other fellows.
Dates: The month of October, 2021, with a weekly commitment of 7-8 hours of contact time.
Eligibility: Creative individuals of any background (artist, curator, academic, writer, etc).
Location: Virtual. Contact time will mostly happen on Zoom and Gather.town in the evenings in Central European Time.
Funding: Artists will be given a monetary reimbursement of 200 Eur ($236 USD), as well as $236 worth of KONJ coins (a type of digital money).
Description: This residency supports projects focused on democratizing the arts. Wendy.network wants to “find new ways for artists to thrive without having to struggle for survival, by fostering a radically empathetic community of artists and art lovers.” The residency involves workshops, weekly lectures, and private sessions.
Dates: Two-week or one-, two-, three-, and six-month stays are available. The dates of the residency are requested in the application process.
Eligibility: All types of writers engaged in literary creation, including translators. Both individual projects and projects in pairs are eligible.
Location: Montricher, Switzerland
Funding: Travel costs to and from the residency, breakfast and lunch, and a monthly allowance of CHF 1,200 ($1,324 USD) is provided.
Description: Residents live and work independently in six ‘treehouses’ that overlook Lake Geneva, the Alps, and the Jura forest. There is one treehouse for socializing with other residents and one available for people with reduced mobility. Additionally, the foundation offers library access and cultural activities.
Dates: Artists select their preferred dates and will be considered for residencies lasting 1 to 3 months.
Eligibility: Regional, national, and international artists of all disciplines. Artists must have a website or social media platform and those with teaching experience will be favored.
Location: Breckenridge, Colorado
Funding: Artists are given free housing as well as a stipend of up to $500 for workshop instruction and a weekly stipend of $200 to cover food, materials, and other expenses.
Description: Visiting artists will live in the Breckenridge Arts District with views of the Rocky mountains. Artists will explore a “place-based thematic narrative—whether that means interpreting our spectacular mountain setting, rich local history, or risk-taking spirit; or focusing on an environmental or social topic important to the community.” Artists will be expected to facilitate two weekly workshops and host a final presentation or event with a local partner.
Dates: March 31-June 1, 2022, or September 1- November 5, 2022. Applicants select a residency of one week to two months.
Eligibility: Published writers and translators of every type of literature.
Location: Hudson River Valley, NY
Funding: Accommodations, food, local transport, and public programming are all provided. Residents are responsible for funding their own travel.
Description: This residency has a “strong international emphasis,” bringing writers and translators from all over the world to stay on 300 acres of land overlooking the Catskill Mountains. Residents stay in private bedroom accommodations with shared bathrooms. Art Omi provides weekly visits from New York publishing industry professionals and opportunities for residents to share their work at public readings.
Eligibility: Visual, literary, and performance artists. Applicants must be twenty-five or older and nonsmokers.
Location: Boise, Idaho
Funding: Free rent, utilities, Wi-Fi, use of bicycles, professional event hosting, and marketing on their social media is included with a modest living and travel stipend.
Description: This residency program gives artists “time, shelter, and professional support.” The residents will also engage with the local community through workshops, outreach to schools, and a final public event. Surel’s Place also allows for a partner to stay with you during your residency.
