When it comes to caring for one’s appearance, it’s safe to say that most people spend a lot of time and money preventing and treating breakouts and pimples. Acne is a dreaded four-letter word that sends fear into the heart of anyone who wants to look their best at all times.
Despite using expensive creams and tonics on our faces that are supposed to treat acne effectively and quickly, sometimes we can’t seem to avoid breakouts. In these cases, it’s wise to consider the possibility that our pimples are a sign that something is going on with our bodies. Here are some common areas where breakouts occur and what these breakouts might be trying to tell you about your overall health.
Jawline and Chin
If you can’t seem to get rid of pimples along your jaw and on your chin, consider the fact that you may have a hormonal imbalance . Although we often attribute teenage acne to hormones changes, we tend to forget that hormones continue to change and adjust during adulthood as well.
In addition to the location of your breakouts, there are other ways to tell if it’s hormonal acne. For one thing, pimples caused by hormonal acne are typically cystic in nature and are painful to the touch. Plus, many women will experience these breakouts during the same time each month as the hormone levels change along with the menstrual cycle.
Between the Eyebrows
If you keep getting pimples between your eyebrows, you may have a food allergy or sensitivity. Foods that our body has trouble digesting will slow down our digestive system which in turn affects our skin.
If you typically break out in this area, consider seeing an allergist so that you can determine whether or not these breakouts are a sign that you are allergic or sensitive to certain foods.
In the Pubic Area, Under Your Arms and Between Your Buttocks
If you get painful, inflamed and large pimples in these areas, you may suffer from a condition called hidradenitis suppurativa . This is a condition that causes the sufferer to develop painful, sensitive and inflamed bumps near the sweat glands of the body. These areas are also typically the areas in which the body grows hair.
These breakouts can be especially painful because of the fact that they occur in areas where skin frequently rubs together. In fact, this constant friction can further irritate these breakouts, causing them to become more swollen. Sometimes, these bumps can become infected.
While hot compresses can relieve the pain and reduce swelling, it’s best to see a doctor so that you can learn about more permanent solutions to this fairly common problem.
On the Forehead
If you have bangs and you experience breakouts only on your forehead, it’s possible that your hair is the culprit. Hair contains natural oils that keep it feeling soft and healthy. However, these oils can clog up the pores of the skin and if you wear bangs, these oils will sit on the skin of your forehead all day long.
Similarly, if you use hair products that are heavy on the fragrances, your skin can react to these fragrances by breaking out.
To combat forehead acne that is caused by your hair, try to keep your bangs out of your face whenever possible. Pin your bangs back when you sleep at night.
Conclusion
By understanding what each area of the face and body represent, you can better develop a solution to combat dreaded breakouts. Certain lifestyle adjustments like drinking more water, staying in shape and eating more fruits and vegetables will greatly benefit your skin and prevent future breakouts from occurring.
