What nuggets of life are you sharing that need poems? Write the poem about how your cat won’t leave you alone with help from this prompt by Lillian-Yvonne Bertram.
Like most writers, I get stuck in ruts and feel like I can’t write. Worse, I feel like I’ve completely forgotten how to write anything at all. The page, much less the poem, feels like an insurmountable gaping chasm designed to prove my inadequacy as a writer and thinker. When this happens, I write from dreams or other daily nonsense, or I crack a book.
Lillian-Yvonne Bertram is the author of Travesty Generator (Noemi Press), a book of computational poetry that received the Poetry Society of America’s 2020 Anna Rabinowitz prize for interdisciplinary work. Their other poetry books include How Narrow My Escapes (DIAGRAM/New Michigan), Personal Science (Tupelo), a slice from the cake made of air (Red Hen Press), and But a Storm is Blowing From Paradise (Red Hen Press). They are the current director of the MFA program at UMass Boston.
